Organization: Wesley Methodist Church
Brief: Bintan Island, about an hour's ride from Singapore, forms part of Indonesian's Riau Islands. Its capital, Tanjung Pinang is visited by traders from Jakarta, Medan, Palembang and other big cities in Indonesia. With a rich history, the island known for its idyllic coasts and beautiful beaches is today a target of many tourists from the East and West, eager to take on additional recreational adventures within the many islands in the Riau. Way into its third year, The Wesley Methodist Church in Singapore has now extended its work at a local church in Sengarang (just north of Tanjung Pinang) to proferring medical aid to the locals. With currently about 5 doctors taking shift turns on weekends once a month, they aim to gradually raise medical personnel and conduct the medical program on a fortnightly basis. Costs amount to $70 Singapore dollars for the volunteer and this covers transport, accommodation (a "kelong hotel!) and food. Medicines are provided by the church. Doctors are to provide their own stethoscopes. Come close to nature today and be involved amongst God's creation! For more information, contact us!
